About us

Primary Health Care Ltd (PHCL) is the largest not-for-profit operator of general practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our journey began when there were small rural practices facing closure as their GPs reached retirement age. We purchased these practices and formed the beginnings of our network to ensure these communities would continue to receive essential primary care services locally.

We are leaders in general practice management, with a strong equity focus on improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Māori and Pasifika. We believe in giving people choice in how they receive primary health care services, using data and connected systems to measure our impact and ensure we're always working to do better.

Our scalable operating model takes a proactive approach to each patient's care, making the best use of each clinic role to enable our teams to operate sustainably, efficiently and in the best interests of our patients. Each practice has a leadership team that understands local needs and shapes services around their community, while working in collaboration with other practice leadership teams across our network.

This supportive approach lets our practice teams focus on patient care, while business support services including finance, human resources, communications and management are taken care of centrally.

Primary Health Care Ltd is owned by Ventures, part of Pinnacle Incorporated.
